The Alliance of American Football League’s Birmingham Iron announced a partnership with iHeartMedia’s News Talk 960 WERC. The announcement comes just in time for the start of AAF’s inaugural season which begins this Sunday, February 10th.
Birmingham’s WERC will carry all Iron home and away games, with Thom Abraham serving as the play-by-play voice along with Mike Johnson as the color analyst. WERC’s Wade Smith will host the broadcast’s pre and post-game shows.
“I look forward to working with 2009 National Champion Mike Johnson, Iron coach Tim Lewis and this great group of men Lewis and GM Joe Pendry have brought together!” Abraham told All Access.
Abraham is a longtime sports radio host currently heard on ESPN 97.7 in Huntsville, AL, also hosting the nationally syndicated Bassmaster Radio. Abraham’s Iron broadcast partner, Mike Johnson is a former Alabama and Atlanta Falcons offensive lineman.
“I’m excited to be back in the heart of football for Alabama, and working with a veteran broadcaster like Thom,” said Johnson.
Founded by NFL Hall of Fame executive Bill Polian and TV producer Charlie Ebersol, son of former NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol, the Alliance of American Football League’s inaugural season kicks off this this weekend, with eight teams, each playing a ten game schedule.
