Just as many questioned the idea of a 24/7 sports radio station decades ago, a 24/7 network focused solely on sports wagering was met with an equal amount of curiousity.
Brian Musberger was confident it was only a matter of time before sports betting was legalized and new a large portion of the sports audience was being ignored by most outlets refusing to discuss gambling. This month marks two years since the Vegas Stats & Information Network was launched and Musberger is more than satisfied with the networks growth.
“We’re thrilled with how we’ve grown in two years,” Musberger told Pat Evans from Front Office Sports. “We had the benefit of being a new media company and our goal is to allow the consumer to take in our content in whatever method is most convenient to them.”
Musberger’s belief about the future of sports gambling was right and in May of last year, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled to overturn a decades old federal law banning sports wagering across the country. Once sports betting was legalized, its stigma began to change with the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL each partnering with gaming companies. No longer is there a fear to discuss sports gambling and many media outlets have since followed VSiN in recognizing its value.
“People thought we were crazy, but now they see it’s a more intelligent form,” Musberger told Evans. “It’s not two guys yelling at each other about who’s the best point guard of all time; there’s no utility to that. I learn stuff every day in the types of content we’re creating.
“What we’re talking about is thought-provoking and enlightening, not necessarily things I’d associate with sports talk.”
Musberger views VSiN as offering something different from standard sports talk, with unique and informative conversations. VSiN currently broadcasts 24/7 on SiriusXM and fuboTV. The network has partnered with the New York Post and Las Vegas Review-Journal, also creating minute-long betting updates for more than 100 radio stations around the country. Two years since their launch and fresh off a broadcasting a 24-hour pregame show for the Super Bowl, the future is bright for Brian Musberger and the Vegas Stats and Information Network.
