98.5 The Sports Hub’s Toucher and Rich launched a simulcast on Twitch.TV Monday morning. The announcement came after a heated discussion on Friday between the morning and midday shows in which the station’s TV simulcasts on NBC Sports Boston were mentioned.
Marc Bertrand of Zolak and Bertrand was upset that a radio bit from Toucher and Rich spilled into the midday show, leading Bertrand to question the quality of The Sports Hub’s morning program. The bit has listeners call shows on The Sports Hub and other stations to say “Sarge sucks,” referring to Mike “Sarge” Riley, the third voice on Toucher and Rich. Bertrand didn’t like the bit, and Toucher didn’t like Bertrand being critical of the show.
The hosts discussed the incident on Friday during their crossover segment, but Toucher, Rich and Bertrand were unable to ease the tension. NBC Sports Boston, which simulcasts Zolak and Bertrand as well as 98.5’s afternoon show Felger and Mazz, posted the interaction, minus the foul language, on Twitter.
“It’s 10:02 we got TV to do,” said Bertrand in an attempt to end the segment and move on to his midday show with Scott Zolak.
Fred Toucher quickly defended his morning show not being simulcast on TV, “Yea good cause we don’t do it anymore.”
“There’s a contractual obligation that they have to carry two shows and we said we didn’t want to do it anymore they had to pick one up,” Rich Shertenlieb added.
Toucher and Rich were simulcast by NBC Sports Boston for nearly three years, ending the partnership this past July. Zolak and Bertrand began being simulcast by the TV network 10 days later.
The morning show’s newly launched Twitch.TV simulcast is a much more dressed down broadcast than being on NBC Sports Boston, but still gives consumers an additional way to access and interact with Toucher and Rich.
