With the Boston Bruins set to take on the Carolina Hurricanes in the NHL’s Eastern Conference Finals, one Bean Town radio station is helping to increase the “us vs. you” mentality between the two cities.
98.5 The Sports Hub’s morning show, Toucher and Rich had Chip Alexander, Hurricanes reporter for the Raleigh News & Observer join their Wednesday morning program for an interview. Alexander’s guest spot on the Boston Bruins flagship radio station didn’t last long after Fred Toucher dropped the call, deciding he didn’t want to listen to a southern accent talk hockey.
The interview begins at the 16:30 mark in the audio link above, ending less than five minutes later with Fred hanging up on Chip while the Canes reporter was mid-sentence.
“I can’t listen to a guy with a southern accent talk about hockey,” said Toucher.
Co-host Rich Shertenlieb and show contributor Jon Wallach both thought Chip was a good guest, but Fred wasn’t interested in listening any longer.
“His southern accent, I can’t take it,” added Fred who defended his decision to end the call. “It’s not like a yelled at him…”
Chip tried calling back, assuming the connection was dropped by mistake, but between the southern accent and expressing pride in the “bunch of jerks” rally, Fred had no desire to let the Canes beat reporter back on the show.
