The radio voice of the New York Yankees, John Sterling, is known for one thing. He is always ready with a creative, albeit sometimes goofy, home run call for Yankees players that go yard. That wasn’t the case on Monday night for Thaior Estrada.
The backup infielder hit his first career home run and Sterling was oddly quiet.
You would think the guy that came up with such gems as “an A-bomb from A-Rod,” “Yes in-Didi! Gregorius has Yankees fans euphorious!,” and “Like a good Gleyber, Torres is there!” would have something ready for everyone on the roster. That apparently isn’t the case.
Later in the game Sterling thanked fans, who had apparently been flooding him with suggestions for future Estrada dingers. “I just told Suzyn [Waldman] — I didn’t know he was going to hit a home run,” he said on air.
