The San Francisco sports radio scene underwent two changes this week as Ryan Cavoy was let go from KNBR 680 and Chris Townsend departed 95.7 The Game.
Longtime host, producer and anchor at KNBR 680, Ryan Cavoy is no longer with the station as of February 5th.
“After nearly a decade KNBR I was just let go today. I want to thank everyone who helped me on that journey. Whatever awaits me in my future, I will attack that with the same vigor and determination that I always have. This is not the end of my story, it’s a chapter in the book,” Cavoy announced on Twitter.
Cavoy joined KNBR in 2010, spending years producing Sportsphone 680 and The Sports Saloon along with contributing to the station as a part-time host.
Across town, 95.7 The Game radio personality, Chris Townsend left the station on his own terms, accepting a position with the Oakland A’s as a host and senior broadcast producer.
“This is a dream come true,” Townsend told the San Francisco Chronicle. “This is the organization I love and always wanted to work for. I never knew this kind of job would be available; it’s unusual, which is pretty cool. This is the new wave of how teams will present themselves.”
Although the Athletics still don’t have a radio partner for the upcoming season, there is an expectation the team will come to terms with a station soon. Until then, streaming coverage of the Athletics will be available. Townsend will contribute to the broadcast’s pre and post-game show, along with serving as their fill-in play-by-play voice during the season.
