The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns along with Townsquare Media announced Ross Cook has been added as the color analyst to their men’s basketball radio booth.
Cook, the former color commentator for Cajun’s men’s basketball television broadcasts who also served as head coach of the Louisiana women’s basketball program for four years, will join veteran play-by-play announcer, Jay Walker in the booth. Walker is set to begin his 27th season as the UL Lafayette men’s basketball radio voice.
“Honestly, when Ross and I first talked about this, I thought it was no more than a pipe dream,” said Walker. “Ross and I kind of joked about how great it would be to work together again, but the more we talked, the more we realized we wanted to make it happen. I couldn’t be more thrilled.”
Prior to joining the Cajun’s radio broadcast, Walker served as their TV play-by-play voice from 1984-91, partnering with Cook for three of those seasons. After leaving the University of Louisiana as a coach and broadcaster, Cook spent time in Idaho as an analyst for NAIA basketball as well as the Idaho Sampeders of the NBA D-League.
“Basketball has remained a major part of my life, even though I’ve been out of coaching for years,” Cook said. “Being able to be back in Louisiana and work with Jay is like a dream come true. I can’t wait to get started.”
The 2018-19 season for the Ragin’ Cajuns men’s basketball program will tip-off on November 6th against the University of the Virgin Islands, followed by games against top ten opponents in Tennessee and Kansas. Cajuns games can be heard on Townsquare media’s KHXT 107.9 FM.
