Last week Barstool Sports was linked to a budding relationship with NASCAR, though the details behind the pairing have yet to be fully revealed. Barstool president Dave Portnoy revealed a potential layer to the partnership could be Barstool sponsoring a vehicle in the future.
In a twitter video with Daytona 500 winner Denny Hamlin, Portnoy said he is “all-in” on NASCAR and told Hamlin they may be “future potential competitors.”
Portnoy said he will be attending the Fall races in Talladega and Bristol and said, “we may be sponsoring a car at those two races.”
Daytona was a success in the ratings category for NASCAR last Sunday. Although there isn’t much to directly attribute to Barstool in that regard just yet, the digital media powerhouse has a loyal audience that respects whatever Barstool puts its name on.
As for the sponsorship, Barstool Sports has been a minor sponsor before on Chris Buescher’s #37 the last two seasons. Who Barstool will sponsor outright is still a mystery, though the answer should be cleared up closer to August’s Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at Bristol.
