The popular video game Fortnite will offer a series of NFL themed outfits for players starting today at 4pm. The Battle Royale Item Shop will feature the uniforms for all 32 teams. Gamers that purchase the outfits can customize their jersey number from 0 to 99. This partnership between the league and Epic Games, the makers of Fortnite, represents the first time the company has partnered with an outside entity to create in-game purchases for the franchise.
Mark Rein, co-founder of Epic Games, says that the company is full of football fans and instantly recognized how unique the opportunity to feature NFL content in their game was. “Allowing our players to represent their favorite teams in the game was too cool of an opportunity for us to pass up, and we couldn’t be happier with how they turned out!”
“We see the popularity of Fortnite every day at the NFL as many of our players are passionate about this game,” said Brian Rolapp, chief media and business officer for the league. He added that the video game and football have crossover appeal that can expose each to a new audience.
