According to Awful Announcing, executives are considering a triple header on Saturday December 21 for NFL Network.
The NFL has been scheduling games on Saturday in late December for years, with the college football regular season wrapping up just after Thanksgiving. Three games on the NFL Network, however, would be out of the ordinary.
It’s easy follow the logic behind the move. The league has slated double headers the Saturday leading up to Christmas over the last couple years, and the Thanksgiving triple header is now as traditional as the turkey dinner itself.
The NFL has not confirmed the Saturday games. The official schedule is expected to be released as soon as this week.
This plan would also provide yet another national window for the league to take advantage of, and one that more people may watch than the early morning games in London. If this works out, it might even spawn a new tradition; after all, the Thanksgiving triple-header is commonplace now, and that used to only be a doubleheader. The league has declined to comment.
