We previously reported that WOR was expected to make programming changes as the result of the New York Mets’ upcoming move to Entercom’s WCBS next spring. Speculation became reality today with Pete McCarthy tweeting “With the Mets changing stations, WOR is discontinuing the Sports Zone at some point this fall. It’s been a dream come true talking about the team I grew up rooting for these last five seasons. Many thanks to all those who listened or contributed.”
McCarthy will be let go, as will Sal Licata. Licata, a former producer for Mike Fancesa, had served as a fill-in sports host for WOR. Inside Radio reports that one sports voice that is expected to stay put at WOR is Len Berman.
It’s likely that veteran sportscaster Len Berman will remain in mornings at WOR, as the show is not a sports-talk show in nature. Berman is paired with theater critic Michael Riedel in AM drive. Berman was brought aboard WOR in 2015, originally working alongside Tampa radio veteran Todd Schnitt.
