The Los Angeles Times just made another big name hire for its sports department. Arash Markazi will join the staff as the paper’s Sports Enterprise Reporter and Page 2 Columnist.
Markazi is a USC grad and is a lifelong Angelino. He has spent the last nine years writing for ESPN, where he covered a number of high profile events including Super Bowls, Wimbledon, and the Tour de France. Prior to that he worked for Sports Illustrated.
His focus will be on emerging industries in the sports world. “As we add e-sports and gambling to our coverage, there are few journalists that can match what Arash Markazi can do,” Assistant Managing Editor for Sports, Angel Rodriguez said in the paper. Markazi will also write a regular column to anchor The Los Angeles Times‘s revamped Page 2.
