Corey Maggette was not on Fox Sports West last night for the Clippers’ game in Minnesota. The New York Times reports that the network elected to pull the former NBA player off the game when accusations of rape surfaced.
The same woman that is accusing Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax of rape says Maggette raped her while they were students at Duke 20 years ago. According to friends of the accuser, Duke officials were aware of her claims and chose not to pursue them.
Maggette released a statement through a spokesman denying the charges. “It has only been through media accounts and a statement from Meredith Watson’s lawyer that I first learned or heard of anything about these sexual assault allegations. I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my life and I completely and categorically deny any such charge.”
Fox Sports West did not comment on their decision except to say that they take the accusations “seriously” and that they “are looking into the matter.”
