WFAN overnight host and contributor to the Mike’s On app, John Jastremski traveled up to Boston this week to join sister station WEEI 93.7 for two days.
Wearing a Yankee hat and showing off his heavy Staten Island accent, JJ introduced himself to the WEEI audience in a Twitter video. Jastremski announced he would be hosting Monday night from 6 – 8pm with Steve DeOssi, also joining the WEEI morning show Mut and Callahan on Tuesday.
While the Yankee hat isn’t popular among Boston fans, neither is JJ’s name, but it should be noted John Jastremski the radio host has no relation to John Jastremski the infamous New England Patriots equipment manager at the center of deflate gate in 2015.
Prior to starting his 6 o’clock show on Monday, JJ joined Ordway Merloni and Fauria for a few minutes where Mike Francesa was quickly brought up. OMF asked JJ what it’s like going to Mike’s house for his app contributions.
“It’s classic Mike, he’s got the golf pullover he has the seersucker shorts and it’s like meeting with Don Corleone fellas,” Jastremski told the WEEI afternoon hosts. “You feel like you’re going to The Godfather’s house when you pull into that driveway and see that beautiful house.”
Familiar with Francesa’s on-air gaffs, Lou Merloni asked JJ if Mike was aware of the Funhouse Twitter account that highlights the legendary host’s miscues. “I couldn’t tell ya,” said Jastremski.
Jastremski’s unique voice and enthusiastic hosting style has been compared to Francesa’s old WFAN partner, Christopher Mad Dog Russo, making him a seemingly great fit as a Mike’s On app contributor. In addition to his overnight and fill-in work on WFAN, Jastremski provides multiple weekly college hoops updates for the app, also hosting a college football show when in-season.
