ESPN Audio had a fantastic year in the digital realm in 2018. Downloads of the company’s shows increased by 43% over 2017. In total, ESPN shows were downloaded 411 million times. The measurement was done by Blubrry and certified by the IAB.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz is the year’s most downloaded show from ESPN Audio. The podcast version of the radio show was downloaded 91 million times. The digital success of the show lead to ESPN’s launch of the Le Batard and Friends Podcast Network, which officially debuted today.
ESPN makes podcast versions of some of its television shows available. In 2018, those podcasts were led by First Take.
Five Thirty Eight: Politics led the way in terms of ESPN’s original digital content with 26 million downloads. Five Thirty Eight has since moved from under the ESPN umbrella to part of ABC News. Fantasy Focus led the way in terms of shows that are still with ESPN.
Growth was the biggest story of 2018 for ESPN Audio. The Stephen A. Smith Show led in that category with an audience increase of more than 250%. 30 For 30, ESPN FC, and First Take all saw their podcast audiences double in size.
