For the first time in 6 years, Miami and Florida are slated to meet on the football field this fall. The classic rivalry is also an ACC-SEC clash and ESPN thinks it might be too big of a game to toss in with the rest of the Labor Day Weekend matchups. In an attempt to get more attention on the sunshine state showdown, executives might move the game up to the final weekend of August – or “Week 0.”
The game is to take place on neutral ground – Orlando’s Camping World Stadium. If the game is to be moved up to August 24th it would be the earlier start to the football season for both storied programs.
At the moment, the only other FBS game scheduled for Week 0 is Arizona at Hawaii. Last year, there were five games that kicked off the week prior to Memorial Day.
Both schools have stated the rumors around the change come from ESPN – which has made no official statement at this time.
