Mike Coppinger of Fox Sports has been all over the business beat when it comes to streaming sports service DAZN and the biggest names in boxing.
Late last week Coppinger reported that DAZN had a deal done with Gennady Golovkin, better known to boxing fans as “Triple G.” He also noted that John Skipper, the Executive Chairman of DAZN’s parent company The Perform Group, was scheduled to meet with Deontay Wilder.
Golovkin’s deal with DAZN will see him fight twice per year. It is a six fight deal said to be in the 8-figure range. His first fight on DAZN will be in June.
As for Wilder, Coppinger says he and Skipper are due to meet this week after speaking via telephone last week.
This could spell doom for boxing fans, as a rematch between Wilder and Tyson Fury has been in the works and remains high on the wishlist of many. Fury recently signed a mega-deal of his own with ESPN. It has not been discussed what effect Wilder’s potential relationship with DAZN could have on the chances for a rematch.
