When will former number one rated New York radio host Craig Carton return to the airwaves? Earlier this month, Carton, whose federal trial begins October 29th, quietly signed off from his daily FNTSY Sports Radio Show for the foreseeable future.
On September 6th, 2017, Carton’s WFAN tenure came to an abrupt ending when the radio host was arrested on charges of wire and securities fraud amid accusations of running a multi-million dollar Ponzi-like scheme.
Carton has pled not guilty to the charges, but last month his co-defendant in the trial, New York City strip club owner Michael Wright, admitted guilt in exchange for a lighter sentence. Carton is now the only person involved in the case to plead not guilty.
In March, Carton returned to hosting a daily radio show for the first time since leaving WFAN, partnering with the FNTSY Sports Network. While the show was picked up in markets around the country, Carton & Friends did not find a home in New York. On September 28th, Carton signed off from his new show to prepare for his upcoming federal court case.
“Anyone that has followed my travails for over a year now knows what I’m dealing with on the legal front. This is going to be my last show here for the foreseeable future, at least for the next two months,” said Carton during his final broadcast before trial.
Carton was thankful to Sports Grid, the owners of FNTSY Sports Network, and spoke about wanting to return to his show in two months. Still, Carton recognizes the reality of his pending litigation, which might make a return to radio this year impossible as he faces jail time.
“I wanted to take a moment to let you know what is going on,” said Carton. “To again reaffirm that I am fighting it, that I am innocent, that I plan to fight with everything I got on October 29th and then I’ll cross my fingers and say a prayer that the truth comes out and I’m exonerated based on what truly took place, as opposed to the nonsense that’s out there.”
Originally partnered with Michelle Serpico and Corey Parson, Carton & Friends added Gabe Morency to the program last month after Labor Day. While Morency joined Carton on the show for a few weeks, his addition was made to help anchor the show in Craig’s absence. The daily show has maintained their terrestrial affiliate partnerships and title, Carton & Friends, since Craig left the program.
