Every August, hungry football fans are overcome with relief when they see actual live football grace their television sets for the first time in months.
While the AAF and ESPN/TSN’s coverage of the CFL might help a bit through the off season, there’s no substitution for the NFL. This year, the Hall of Game will be a matchup of the Falcons and the Broncos.
The Super Bowl XXXIII rematch will be televised by NBC August 3 from Canton, Ohio. This year’s draft class includes Falcons alumnus Tony Gonzalez, former Denver cornerback Champ Bailey, and longtime Broncos owner Pat Bowlin.
The benefit of playing so early? An extra week of practice for the players/coaches and the national spotlight for owners/fans. Falcons Coach Dan Quinn clearly sees all upside in playing in the annual preseason opener; “We are fired up to kick off the NFL’s 100th season in the Hall of Fame Game.”
