Brent Johnson will return to hosting a daily radio show starting January 2nd, joining 93.1 The Lake in Columbia, South Carolina. The veteran radio personality will host morning drive and serve as program director of The Lake, the station that plays favorites from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.
Johnson joins Midland Media Group’s station after spending the last 27 years of his career at B 106.7 and 11 years as a sports radio midday host on 107.5 The Game. Johnson departed Cumulus in August, ending his tenure on both shows.
“We’re excited to welcome an award-winning on-air personality with a huge, loyal following to our team,” said Keith Stover, managing partner of Midlands Media Group. “Brent has been a fixture in the Columbia community for many years. He’s a beloved, house-hold name with our listeners. In addition to his on-air talent, his programming expertise and knowledge of the market is a terrific asset for The Lake.”
While at 106.7 and The Game, Johnson was inducted into the South Carolina Broadcaster’s Association Hall of Fame, also winning a Marconi award. After his exit from Cumulus, Johnson remained with IMG and continued his role as a host and analyst on the University of South Carolina football radio broadcasts.
“I am thrilled to be joining the locally owned team at 93.1 The Lake, which gives me a fresh start to do a live and local morning show again. January can’t come soon enough” said Johnson. He has not announced whether or not he plans to continue on the Gamecock Radio Network next season.
