Actor and frequent Oscar host Billy Crystal has a one night only gig coming in the new year. On January 31 he will join Ralph Lawler at the broadcast table and provide color commentary for the Clippers’ game against the LA Lakers.
The idea was actually Crystal’s. He told Rachel Yang of Variety that he wanted to do something special to celebrate Lawler’s 40 years with the team. Lawler announced earlier this year that this will be his final season as the television voice of the Los Angeles Clippers.
Crystal’s support of the Clippers is well known throughout both Hollywood and the NBA. He has had courtside seats for their games since 1985. He told Yang that he will make it a point to keep the focus on Lawler on the 31st. “And hopefully it goes well,” he said. “Who knows? I may have a new career.”
