The Associated Press is expanding its use artificial intelligence in creating articles. AI was already being used to create minor league baseball game recaps. Now the AP will use robots to generate previews for all college basketball games according to SportsTechie.
Jen Booton reports that the news platform is planning to deliver previews for over 5000 college basketball games without any human input. The AP began using the technology on Monday.
Awful Announcing’s Jay Rigdon notes that using this technology for previews in a sport with tens of thousands of games every season makes sense. That doesn’t mean it isn’t concerning for sports writers. “In the long run, though, it’s certainly a development to watch. Sports media isn’t exactly a booming industry for the people in it already, after all.”
