Altoona Loses Only Sports Station

“Forever Media turned off ESPN Radio on 1430 AM and replaced it with an oldies station.”

Altoona, PA isn’t a major market by any means. Arbitron ranks it number 603 with a population just north of 108,000. Still, it is worth noting that the market lost its only sports station.

Forever Media turned off ESPN Radio on 1430 AM and replaced it with an oldies station.

WVAM 1430 AM is a 5000 watt station that reduces to 1000 watts at night. It will use Westwood One’s Good Time Oldies format to fill programming.

The station is the radio home of the Pittsburgh Pirates double-A affiliate, the Altoona Curve. It also carried Pitt men’s basketball, Penn State football, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. A press release did not mention if those games would still air on the station.
