The ACC Tournament was a huge ratings winner for ESPN. The event provided the most-watched and second-most-watched games in the history of ESPN’s Championship Week presentation.
The highest rated game of the ACC Tournament was the third matchup of the season between Duke and North Carolina in the semi-finals. That game, which longtime members of the ACC media have called one of the best in tournament history, averaged an audience of 4,150,000 viewers. The final, which saw Duke defeat Florida State, averaged an audience of 4,063,000 viewers.
Both games blew past the previous high-water mark of 4,011,000 viewers. That number was achieved in the 1998 ACC Tournament, where North Carolina beat Duke in the final game.
