97.1 The Fan Becomes Columbus Crew SC Flagship

“For the first time in four years the Crew have a radio broadcast separate from their television coverage, bringing back former analyst Chris Doran to be their play-by-play voice.”

Just in time for the start of the season, the Columbus Crew SC partnered with the Dispatch Broadcast Group to have 97.1 Fan serve as the soccer club’s flagship radio station.  All road and home games will be streamed online and broadcast terrestrially on 97.1 The Fan.

For the first time in four years the Crew have a radio broadcast separate from their television coverage, bringing back former analyst Chris Doran to be their play-by-play voice.

“We are excited to announce this partnership with 97.1 The Fan and are proud that Crew SC will play an important role in their robust and well-respected sports programming lineup,” Crew President Tim Bezbatchenko said in the release. “I want to welcome back longtime sports broadcaster Chris Doran back to Columbus as we are happy that he will help deliver an engaging radio broadcast to all listeners.”

The Crew’s most recent radio affiliate was CD 102.5, an alternative rock station which carried the club’s TV simulcast.  Returning play-by-play voice, Chris Doran served as the Crew’s color analyst from 2013 – 2016, having also covered soccer on the Big Ten Network since 2007.

“I’m thrilled to have this new relationship between The Fan and Columbus Crew SC,” Mike Ricordati, Director of Content & Image at 97.1 The Fan, said in the release. “This isn’t just a soccer team, it’s a community effort. I know the Haslam and Edwards families are just as committed to Central Ohio as we are. It’s a perfect fit.”

The Crew will play their second game of the season this Saturday in Dallas, after their home-opener last weekend in Columbus drew a crowd of 17,931.
