For the second year in a row, ESPN2 will celebrate 8/8 with 24 hours of rarely televised sports. The programming package, dubbed ESPN8: The Ocho, was born out of a plot point from the 2003 movie Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story starring Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller.
This year’s Ocho lineup will include plenty of dodgeball including the 2018 Dodgeball World Cup and the SkyZone Ultimate Dodgeball Championship. Other sports broadcast that day will include darts, roller derby, kabaddi, and a hybrid of chess and boxing called…you guessed it, chessboxing.
ESPN will also bring two of its best established brands to The Ocho. Kenny Mayne will host a special edition of SportsCenter focusing on highlights from the day’s programming. Jeremy Schapp will host E:60 on ESPN8. It will feature stories on frog jumping, catfish hunting, Japanese monster wrestling and cheese rolling amongst other odd sports.
The day will conclude with a broadcast of the movie Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. The full schedule for ESPN8: The Ocho is below.
