Pro Football Weekly is reporting that former NFL safety and current ESPN writer and analyst Matt Bowen will join the cast of the network’s NFL Matchup, a show built on very technical breakdowns of the week’s games. Bowen first joined ESPN in 2015 and has seen his star rise very quickly.
ESPN senior coordinating producer Seth Markham told PFW “Anyone who has spoken with Matt about football or read his columns on ESPN.com knows this role on NFL Matchup is a perfect fit for him.” Bowen will fill the role Louis Riddick had last season, as Riddick will now travel with ESPN’s Monday Night Football crew to be a part of the broadcast’s pre-game and halftime shows.
Matt Bowen calls the opportunity a dream come true, describing himself as a lifelong fan of the show. “I grew up watching this show. To have the opportunity to now be on set and have the chance to work with two of the best in the business in Sal Paolantonio and Greg Cosell, two guys I have learned a ton from … it’s just a thrill.”
