Major Shakeup at 1500 ESPN Twin Cities

It looks like a major overhaul is coming to 1500 ESPN in Minneapolis. Long time hosts Joe Soucheray and Patrick Reusse are both on their way out. Their final day will be September 7th. Soucheray hosted Garage Talk weekdays from 1pm until 3pm. Reusse hosted the afternoon show The Ride with Reusse. They worked together on a crossover program called Sports Talk.

PD Brad Lane is also out. He confirmed the news with a Facebook post. In it, Lane thanked Hubbard for 20 years of employment.

Garage Logic has been on the station since 1993. Its future is up in the air reports All Access.

Soucheray, a columnist for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, will continue “Garage Logic” as a podcast, although it is presently unclear whether the show will continue to be produced and distributed through its present PodcastOne arrangement or with Hubbard’s participation, nor whether the cast of producer/sidekick Matt “The Rookie” Michalski, Chris Reuvers, and newsman John Heidt will be involved.  The show, a political and humor program based in the mythical town of Garage Logic in the mythical Gumption County, Minnesota, has been regionally syndicated for its entire run at KSTP, beginning when the station was still in the News-Talk format.

Despite receiving the bad news, Soucheray expressed his gratitude to All Access for the way the company has allowed them to sign off. “The usual way it happens is you are told, ‘Your last show was yesterday.’ They’ve told us we can handle this any way we want.”

  1. Over the weekend, a few more details came out (per http://www.startribune.com/kstp-radio-axes-joe-soucheray-and-patrick-reusse-after-35-years-on-the-air/490579471): The late-morning “Mackey & Judd” show (which might be the only other local show airing daily) is also canceled–although the two hosts (Phil Mackey and Judd Zulgad) apparently will remain at the station. However, John Heidt–who was also on that show–has been let go (which he mentioned on Twitter). This morning’s “Mackey & Judd” also started off with a good amount of discussion about the changes.
