One of ESPN’s most prominent voices on Chicago sports is going silent for a while. Jeff Dickerson has announced via Twitter that he is taking a sabbatical to care for his ailing wife and the couple’s 7-year-old son.
With a heavy heart I’ve had to step away from my various ESPN duties to care for my ailing wife and our wonderful 7-year old son. I can’t thank ESPN, my friends & colleagues enough for their unwavering support & concern for my family.

Dickerson covers the Bears for ESPN.com and occasionally appears on ESPN to talk about the team. He has been with ESPNChicago.com since 2001. He is currently the co-host of Dickerson and Hood alongside Jonathan Hood on ESPN 1000.
The network and several colleagues expressed their sympathy and support for the Dickerson family. Jeff Dickerson chose not to give details about his wife’s illness or how long he would be away from work.
