ESPN Considering Beadle and Greenberg In Mornings

According to Michael McCarthy of the Sporting News, ESPN is considering pairing Michelle Beadle and Mike Greenberg. Greeny’s new morning show is expected to launch in four months and Beadle appears to have emerged as a serious contender to be part of the new show.

If ESPN does pull the trigger on the move, it would create a high profile show featuring two talented and marketable personalities which will be necessary in the competitive timeslot of morning drive. The new program is expected to originate out of New York City rather than ESPN’s Bristol, CT studios, making it more visually appealing and attractive for landing A-list guests.

Sources told McCarthy “there are still a lot of ways this might go,” and although nothing is definite, during a trip last week to FS1 studios in Los Angeles, many were hearing the same noise. There was mild surprise that Beadle would entertain waking up early and working a morning schedule but the majority acknowledged that if she was willing to do it, her addition would give Greenberg’s show a boost.

“Mike & Mike in the Morning” which Greenberg has been a big part of, has been a key focus for ESPN for the past 18 years. The show is scheduled to end in November with Mike Golic being part of a new morning radio show with Trey Wingo and his son Mike Golic Jr. Given the company’s leap of faith to build a new morning show on television around Greenberg, finding the right partner is critical. The new morning show debuts January 1, 2018 and will air from 7a-10a ET. It’s expected to include Greenberg, a female anchor, two to three rotating experts and a number of guests and celebrities.

Since joining ESPN, Beadle has rapidly climbed the ladder, earning praise as one of the network’s top female personalities. She’s hosted “SportsNation” and “NBA Countdown”, including leading the network’s studio coverage for the NBA Finals on ABC, the NBA Playoffs and the regular season.

ESPN previously expressed interest in FOX Sports’ Charissa Thompson and met with Jenna Wolfe who has since signed on to host “First Things First” on FS1. Katie Nolan’s name has come up as well but nothing further has materialized with her.
