Fox Sports 1 will again be the TV partner for entertainer Ice Cube’s 3-on-3 basketball league The Big 3 in 2018. The first tour stop of the new season will air on the cable network on Friday, June 22 at 7:30 pm Eastern. The first week of the league’s inaugural 2017 season became one of FS1’s ten most watched basketball broadcasts of all time. Last season’s broadcast crew of Gus Johnson, Jim Jackson, and Michael Rapaport are expected to return in their same roles for the 2018 season.
The league is made up of eight teams of former NBA and college basketball stars playing 3-on-3 half court games. The season consists of ten tour stops throughout the summer. This year’s first stop is in Houston. The season will conclude with the playoffs in Dallas on August 17 and the championship game in Brooklyn on August 24.
The biggest news for the Big 3 off the court is the sudden departure of NBA Hall of Famer Allen Iverson as a coach of one of the league’s eight teams. Iverson played and coached last season, and at times didn’t show up for scheduled games and appearances. On June 6th Iverson sighted scheduling conflicts with the league’s 2018 tour dates as his reason for not participating in the 2018 season.
