YouTube announced two original docuseries which will be available on the platform. According to SportTechie, Training Days, a soccer related series, will premiere May 9th and Best Shot, starring former NBA player Jay Williams will be released later this summer.
“Today, more than ever, users are seeking out content online,” YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki said on stage. “And with an open platform, we see an opportunity to inspire creativity, to share valuable information and to build meaningful communities at scale.”
Training Days features comedian Jack Whitehall visiting Premiere League soccer clubs, training with top players and delving into their lives away from the sport.
Best Shot is a docuseries produced by LeBron James’ owned company, SpringHill Entertainment. The eight-part series is co-produced by LeBron and the company’s CEO Maverick Carter. The series will feature former NBA player and Duke Blue Devil star Jay Williams, as he mentors the Newark Central High School Blue Devils basketball team, chronicling their attempt at reaching the next level of success.
The announcement came at the Interactive Advertising Bureau’s week of advertiser pitches. During the announcement, YouTube shared research stating almost 70% of their consumers have an interest in watching longer-form content on the platform, rather than “short cat videos.”
