NBC has announced that Kurt Warner will take over for Cris Collinsworth on two of the networks remaining national broadcasts this season. Warner will join play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico for the Saturday Dec. 16th matchup between the Bears and Lions, followed by their Christmas Day broadcast of Steelers vs. Texans.
“I have always been a fan of Kurt Warner the person, the player, and the broadcaster, and am excited to see him share his expertise with Mike and Heather,” said Fred Gaudelli, EP of NBC Sunday Night Football and Thursday Night Football.
Warner retired from his hall of fame career as an NFL quarterback and joined the NFL Network as an analyst in 2010. Warner has been a regular on NFL Total Access, NFL GameDay Morning, and the NFL Network’s TNF pre/post broadcast.
This is not the first time the hall of fame quarterback will serve as a game analyst, in 2010 Warner joined Fox to call regional games and since 2014 he has filled in for Boomer Esiason on Westwood One’s Monday Night Football radiocast.
“There is nothing I enjoy more than being at the stadium on game day – being able to watch the action up close and experience the energy of the fans – so I am extremely excited about joining Mike, Heather and the entire NBC team as an analyst for these two games in December,” Warner said in a press release. “I look forward to using my unique experiences to contribute to NBC’s already incredible coverage of the NFL.”
