The Big Lead reports that FOX Sports 1 has come to terms with Jenna Wolfe to host the network’s upcoming morning show, First Things First, which will feature Cris Carter and Nick Wright. The new program is scheduled to debut on Tuesday September 5th.
Wolfe, previously served as a correspondent for The Today Show, and was first reported as a candidate to host FS1’s morning show by Michael McCarthy of the Sporting News.
FS1 is hoping the introduction of a debate driven morning show will generate additional eyeballs to the network in mornings, serving as a strong lead-in to Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe’s Undisputed program which airs at 9:30am ET. The formula is similar to what FS1 experienced when Bayless and Sharpe took to the air and began driving additional viewers to Colin Cowherd’s program.
There are still questions about whether or not FS1’s strategy will pay off long-term in the numbers. Many expected the network to be further along at this point, but building a reputable brand, and competing against a juggernaut like ESPN takes time.
First Things First should experience immediate growth since FS1 hasn’t provided live programming in morning drive. But whether they’ll be able to generate significant momentum against the remainder of live morning programming options on other channels, is a question we won’t be able to answer until the program has had enough time on the air to properly analyze its impact.
