As rumors swirl about a possible Mike and the Mad Dog reunion, Mike Francesa and Chris “Mad Dog” Russo are having a little fun with their regained popularity as a sports talk tandem. The duo are set to be featured on ESPN as part of the 30 for 30 documentary series on Thursday night July 13th, and now comes word that the former WFAN partners will unite for a special “Mike and the Mad Dog” SiriusXM Town Hall event on Thursday night July 6th.
The special is scheduled to air at 6pm ET on Mad Dog Sports Radio. Actor Chazz Palminteri will conduct the interview with Mike and Chris.
Francesa and Russo spent nearly 19 years together on WFAN, becoming the most successful sports talk pairing in New York sports radio history. Francesa has publicly stated that he will exit WFAN after a 28 year run with the station this December.
During the past year, Francesa and Russo have made public appearances together. They were together at Francesa’s annual FrancesaCon, and hosted a one-night special together at Radio City Music Hall. The latest announcement of reconnecting for SiriusXM’s Town Hall will fuel further speculation about a possible reunion in the future.
When asked previously about Francesa making a move to SiriusXM, Russo has said he’d love to have Mike involved with the channel. However, Russo has added that the likelihood of the two teaming up again on a full-time basis is very slim. Instead he has hinted at the possibility of the two joining forces on a part-time basis.
