SiriusXM has a huge void to fill with Stephen A. Smith departing for ESPN Radio. But how many high profile names could generate the buzz that Smith did for the satellite channel?
Chris “Mad Dog” Russo has an idea of one pending free agent who could add a major spark.
In an interview with Bernie and Sid on WABC in New York, Russo said “I will throw this out there just to have some laughs. And Mike will never do it, but the door is open, anytime.”
Russo wouldn’t discuss Smith’s upcoming departure but did say an open invitation and big contract awaits his former partner should he wish to move to the satellite radio company.
“When Mike’s contract is up and he is a free agent, any channel he wants at SiriusXM, he has a done deal.”
Francesa’s contract expires at WFAN at the end of 2017. He’s already said publicly he will not remain with the station beyond his current deal. The big question is whether or not he’ll continue hosting a show for a different brand.
Russo doesn’t believe Francesca will disappear and settle into retirement.
“Mike will be able to work,” Russo added. “You think Mike’s going to retire with three little kids at home, in the house all day? Not a chance.”
