SB Nation Radio made a decision on Monday to part ways with morning show host Steve Czaban. The popular Washington DC based host spent the past 6+ years hosting mornings on the network (formerly Sporting News and Yahoo Sports Radio) in addition to hosting the afternoon show for ESPN 980. He was named one of the top 10 network shows earlier this year by a panel of sports radio programmers and executives.
When SB Nation Radio elected to cut ties with Czaban, the word was that the company wanted to move in a different direction. Barrett Sports Media learned from ten different sources that longtime Chicago sports radio personality Mike North was set to take over mornings on SB Nation Radio. The plan was to start North’s new show on Monday September 26th.
Then during the middle of the afternoon today, BSM was informed that discussions with North didn’t materialize and the plan was off. SB Nation Radio executives have since told BSM that North will not host the morning show.
Will the two sides revisit their talks and get a deal done? Maybe but a once thought to be done deal now appears to have fallen through. Sources say that if North had joined the network it would’ve opened the door to gain clearance in Chicago. Whether that can still be done without North remains unclear.
