NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe is expected to be announced today as Skip Bayless’ brand new partner on FOX Sports 1 according to a report from John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal. The possibility of FOX Sports 1 adding Sharpe alongside Bayless has been rumored since June when it was originally reported by Mike McCarthy of the Sporting News.
Bayless and Sharpe are expected to be the featured duo going head to head against Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman on First Take. Their unnamed show will premiere on Tuesday September 6th at 10am ET. The show will run two hours in length.
Fox Sports National Networks President Jamie Horowitz told Ourand: “We’re either early in development or very far along, depending on your point of view. We’re early in that we have not had a single rehearsal yet. We have not named a staff yet. We don’t even have a show title yet. But we’re very far along in that the most important part of the show – Skip and Shannon – have now officially been identified.”
Sharpe has a background in sports television, previously contributing as an analyst to CBS’ NFL pregame show, “The NFL Today.” He’s also made numerous appearances on ‘First Take’ with Bayless, filling in for Stephen A. Smith.
Sharpe says he’s ecstatic about the opportunity to expand his opinion beyond the NFL: “I feel like I can talk about anything. I’m fairly knowledgeable. What I don’t know, I don’t have a problem reading up on a topic. If I need to call a coach or a general manager or a player and ask, I don’t have a problem doing that. I will come to battle and debate every day on every topic. People don’t think that I think about what I’m going to say. But I do. I never want to have to go and apologize later for something that I said. I’m very thoughtful in that process. When I say it, I mean it.”
