Mike McCarthy of the Sporting News is reporting that Michael Irvin’s contract with the NFL Network is set to expire before the start of the 2016 NFL season. As a result, he could become an attractive option to other networks who are looking to ramp up their NFL coverage.
As we’ve seen over the past year, numerous sports channels are looking for strong opinion and unpredictability out of their on-air analysts. Irvin possesses the style and skillset that many network executives are searching for.
The report states that the NFL Network hopes to retain Irvin, but a return to ESPN remains possible since the network has been overhauling its NFL contributors this offseason. The possibility of Fox Sports 1, CBS, or NBC also can’t be ruled out.
