Talk of the UFC being sold over the past few months has been running rampant. Company officials have adamantly denied the reports while reporters have stuck by their reports. Today, we’ve learned that the media had this one right.
TMZ Sports has confirmed that the UFC will indeed be sold. The company has agreed to sell to entertainment and sports talent agency WME/IMG for a reported 4 billion dollars. Co-CEO of WME/IMG Ari Emanuel, is expected to gain strong influence over the organization.
One familiar face won’t be going anywhere. UFC President Dana White will remain in his regular role and continue to have a strong presence. The Fertitta brothers will have a minority interest and diminished role. CEO Lorenzo Fertitta will step down from his position as CEO with Emanuel taking over.
The agreement is expected to take between six weeks and two months to complete.
