Portland Trail Blazers Overhaul Broadcast Teams

Portland Trail Blazers fans will notice a very different television presentation next season. Team President & CEO Chris McGowan announced that play-by-play announcer Mike Barrett, television color analyst Mike Rice, and radio analyst Antonio Harvey will not return for the 2016-17 season. A search for their replacements is ongoing.

Barrett spent a total of 17 seasons with the Blazers, 13 of which included working as the team’s television play by play voice. Rice, had been a part of the organization for 26 years, 11 of them serving as the television color commentator. Harvey, contributed to the radio broadcast for the past 11 seasons.

“After reviewing our entire broadcast operation over the past couple of seasons, I felt it was a good time for us to transition into a new direction,” McGowan said. “I would like to thank our broadcasters for their years of dedicated service to our organization and wish them nothing but success in their future endeavors. Going forward, we will focus our efforts on a national search to fill our open TV broadcast positions, with the number one goal of bringing in top-notch talent that our fans will be excited to watch during Trail Blazers broadcasts.”

One individual who will return is radio play-by-play voice Brian Wheeler. This will be his 19th season with the franchise. The radio broadcasts will continue to air on flagship station Rip City Radio AM-620, and the Trail Blazers Radio Network.
