Fox Sports Reporter Let Go Due To Making Racist Remarks

Emily Austen has lost her job at Fox Sports Florida. During a recent appearance on Barstool Sports’ daily Rundown show, the Fox Sports Florida sideline reporter, who was part of Tampa Bay Rays and Orlando Magic broadcasts, made a number of racist and anti-Semitic jokes. The show was broadcast on Facebook Live, but then vanished from Barstool’s Facebook page.

In the span of 35-minutes, Austen proceeded to call Kevin Love “a little bitch”, and said she “didn’t even know that Mexicans were that smart,” and mentioned that “The Chinese guy is always the smartest guy in math class”. One of the hosts followed up by adding that Jews were stingy, and Austen added that when she worked as a waitress she’d talk back to the Jews in Boca because “they would complain and bitch about everything.”

Barstool published a post that said “we (Hank probably) somehow deleted the video which was supposed to be edited for the actual show today.” But somebody saved and uploaded the broadcast on Vimeo, and the link to it eventually spread like wildfire.

After learning of Austen’s comments, Fox Sports Florida senior vice-president Steve Tello provided the following statement:

“We were made aware that Emily Austen appeared in a social media video unaffiliated with FOX Sports in which she made insensitive and derogatory comments. She was not speaking on behalf of FOX Sports, nor do we condone any of the statements she made in the video. Emily has been advised that her comments were unacceptable, and she is not scheduled to appear on any upcoming FOX Sports Florida or FOX Sports Sun broadcasts.”
