WEEI and Red Sox Close To New Agreement

According to a report in the Boston Herald, WEEI and the Red Sox are about to extend their relationship, keeping the team’s games on the Entercom-owned station for another seven to eight years. Sources say that rival station 98.5 The Sports Hub, which is owned by CBS, was in the mix for the team’s radio rights, but when CBS announced their intentions to get out of the radio business, that sealed the deal.

The Herald’s report says that the deal is expected to be less than the previous 10-year, $200 million deal between Entercom and the Red Sox. The feeling is that the new deal will be in the neighborhood of $15 million to $16 million a year for seven or eight years, but that has yet to be confirmed by either party.
