Over the past twenty years, Matt Dery has built a great name and reputation in Detroit. He spent twelve years as the Sports Director and Pistons Pre/Post/Halftime host at WDFN, four years as the update anchor for “Valenti and Foster” on 97.1 The Ticket, and most recently hosted midday and afternoon shows for Detroit Sports 105.1. He’s also done television work for Fox Sports Detroit and WXYZ, and filled in on Pistons play by play.
In March, Dery’s afternoon program on 105.1 with Drew Sharp was unexpectedly cancelled after only four and a half months. That left many to wonder, where would Matt turn up next?
Well, we have our answer.
Matt is filling in on the airwaves of 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland. Dery, a Cleveland native, shared the news on Twitter. He appeared as an in-studio guest to break the news on “The Bull and Fox Show” and said he’d be hosting on weekends and doing fill ins.
The one grey area is whether or not it will be a permanent role or temporary arrangement. During Dery’s weekend debut, morning man Ken Carman appeared with him as a guest. That’s notable because Carman’s show is searching for a co-host after parting ways with Kevin Kiley. Considering Dery’s major market experience and local roots, could there be a match? Anthony Lima has been filling in with Carman, and the two have sounded good together, so that remains a possibility for the radio station too.
Either way, it’s always great to have options, and Program Director Andy Roth certainly has some good ones at his disposal. Whichever way he turns, The Fan will be in great shape moving forward.
