HBO’s “Real Sports” will air an interview Tuesday night with TNT announcer Craig Sager where he confirms that the acute myeloid leukemia he has battled for the last two years is no longer in remission.
In the interview with HBO’s Bernard Goldberg, Sager states that he’s entering “uncharted waters”.
“I’ve already had two stem cell transplants. Very rarely does somebody have a third,” Sager told HBO. “So I have to maintain my strength, so I can go through this.”
It remains unclear if Sager will need to vacate the sidelines again to undergo more treatment. He currently is slated to a number of “NBA on TNT” broadcasts including the March 29th game between the Warriors and Wizards, the March 31st contest between the Bulls and Rockets, and the April 7 matchup between the Bulls and Heat.
The full interview will air Tuesday night at 10pm EST on HBO.
