Radio station WSJS-AM (600) is increasing its emphasis on local sports on Monday.
“We always want to continue to be a reflection of our community,” said Al Bunch, the general manager of WSJS. “You don’t have to look far to see the Triad is ripe with local sports, and there’s always a story behind them. Listeners and clients are asking for more local sports coverage.”
One show is being added, “The Scott Hamilton Show” from 3-6 p.m. weekdays. Hamilton is a sports columnist for the Winston-Salem Journal. The show — which is carried on stations in High Point and Greensboro but until now has not been carried by a Winston-Salem station — is broadcast live from WSJS’s studio in downtown Winston-Salem.
WSJS is also moving “The David Glenn Show,” a sports talk show based out of Raleigh, to run from noon to 3 p.m. weekdays in a live broadcast. It was previously carried time-delayed from 7 to 10 p.m. That time slot will now be filled by CBS Sports Radio.
“What I like about both of these shows is that you don’t have to be a sports fanatic to enjoy them,” Bunch said. “Both are really informative if you are a sports nut but also entertaining.”
In the process, WSJS is dropping two current afternoon shows, the syndicated “Dave Ramsey” financial-advice show and “More with Matt Clark,” which is locally produced. Clark is the operations manager at WSJS and will remain with the company.
