Longtime radio color commentator Ted Throckmorton suddenly passed away Tuesday from an apparent heart attack.
According to several sources, the 87-year-old was out running errands in his hometown of Jeffersonville when he collapsed at Olde Towne Grocery in Jeff early Tuesday afternoon.
Throckmorton did color commentary on area high school football and boys’ basketball games, particularly contests involving his alma mater Jeffersonville, from 1962 until last Friday. Throckmorton did most of his broadcasting for WXVW-1450 AM in Jeff. In 2011, Throckmorton was honored by the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame for his broadcasting work.
Arrangements for Throckmorton’s funeral were not determined at press time. Read Thursday’s edition of the News and Tribune for more on the life and career of Throckmorton.
