The network’s lead college football broadcast team, which works a heavy schedule of Big 12 games, will have a new sound next season. Gus Johnson will be joined by Joel Klatt, who is sliding in from the network’s college football studio. Charles Davis, who worked alongside Johnson, is moving on to NFL duty where he will work with Thom Brennaman.
Klatt, a former Colorado quarterback, has done some tasty work since getting into the business at Fox Sports Southwest. Davis, of sound, shtick-less voice, already has a gig with NFL Network.
Replacing Klatt in the Fox studio, which is also Big 12-heavy, should be former USC quarterback Matt Leinart, who will join Rob Stone and Dave Wannstedt, once the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator. In addition to Big 12 games, Fox and Fox Sports 1 offer those from Conference USA and the Pac-12.
Also word is out that Fox hopes to add a second hour of Sunday NFL pregame studio coverage. All that appears certain is that the network won’t ask Jimmy Johnson, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Michael Strahan and Curt Menafee to work the extra shift. Just who will remains to be seen.
