A’s Korach Out With Injured Knee

Long time Oakland Athletics play-by-play man Ken Korach will miss this week’s Bay Bridge exhibition series, the first homestand against Texas and Seattle and the first regular-season trip as well.

Korach, who had a left-knee replacement in 2012, has been rehabbing the knee since suffering an injury. The rehab is progressing, but Korach, entering his 20th year doing A’s radio work, isn’t ready for a grueling 162-game season on 95.7 The Game, the A’s flagship station.

“He’s getting better,” Ken Pries, the A’s vice president of communications and broadcasting, told the Santa Cruz Sentinel on Monday. “He needs to do the rehab every day, and the goal is to get him to where he’s healthy enough for the rest of the season.”

Roxy Bernstein, a veteran Bay Area broadcaster who has filled in from time to time with the A’s, will team up with Vince Cotroneo to do the Exhibition Series games vs. the Giants and the first home series vs. Texas. Guy Haberman from the Athletics flagship station 95.7 The Game will step in to work with Cotroneo for the second home series vs. Seattle.
