Bruce Gilbert is joining the senior programming team at Cumulus Media as SVP of sports, a newly created position. He arrives from iHeartMedia, where he was SVP of sports operations for the past two years. Cumulus says Gilbert will lead the curation, development and execution of all sports content initiatives for Cumulus and Westwood One and oversee the strategic direction of the company’s O&O sports stations.
Gilbert will report to EVP of programming and content John Dickey. Corporate program director of sports Jim Mahanay will now report to Gilbert. A veteran sports radio exec, Gilbert earlier was VP of news/talk/sports for CBS Radio in Dallas. He served as CEO of Red Zebra Broadcasting from 2007-2010 and general manager of ESPN Radio from 2003-2007.
“Bruce will drive the continued growth and development of the industry-leading sports platform at Cumulus and Westwood One, which together comprise the largest pure-play sports radio network in the world and align with the best brands in the business,” Dickey said in a statement. “His addition furthers our commitment to creating and delivering the most exciting content to sports fans and delivering incomparable opportunities for our partners and advertisers.”
